The short version
Everything you create here is yours. It lives in your browser and — only if you choose — in your own Google Drive, purely so you can continue where you left off on another device. This site has no server, no accounts, no analytics, and no ads. We never receive your content, and we never evaluate, sell, share, or monetize it. We couldn't if we wanted to — it never passes through anything we operate.
What this site stores, and where
Storyteller Toolbox is a static website. When you use it, it stores data in exactly two places, both controlled by you:
- Your browser (localStorage). The documents you create — prep sheets, notes, journal entries today, and future document types such as maps, stat blocks, and initiative trackers as the tool grows — plus small preferences like your light/dark theme choice. This data stays on your device. Clearing your browser's site data deletes it.
- Your Google Drive (optional). If you click
☁ Save to Drive on the Sheet Builder, your documents are written to a
single file named
storyteller-toolbox-data.jsonin your own Google Drive. That's the entire purpose of the integration: keeping your progress — whatever you write or generate, from prep notes to prayers to whole campaign journals — available for cross-device continuation.
The Google Drive connection, precisely
- What is sent: only the contents of the documents you created on this site — the same text you see on your sheets. Nothing else: no browsing activity, no usage statistics, no device information beyond what Google's own sign-in requires.
- When: only when you click Save to Drive or Load. There is no background syncing.
- Where it goes: directly from your browser to Google Drive over HTTPS. It does not pass through any server of ours — there isn't one.
- What the site can access: the connection uses Google's
drive.filepermission, the narrowest available — the site can only see and modify the one backup file it created. It cannot read, list, or touch anything else in your Drive. - Taking it back: click Disconnect on the Sheet Builder to
revoke access, or manage it any time at
myaccount.google.com/permissions.
To erase the backup itself, delete
storyteller-toolbox-data.jsonfrom your Drive. Done — no residue anywhere, because no copy ever existed anywhere else.
Storyteller Toolbox's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What we never do
We never evaluate, analyze, profile, sell, rent, share, or train anything on your data. We serve no ads and run no analytics or tracking of any kind. The architecture makes these promises structural rather than aspirational: your content moves only between your browser and your Google Drive.
Third parties
- Google handles sign-in and Drive storage under Google's privacy policy when you choose to connect.
- GitHub Pages hosts the site's static files; like any web host, GitHub may log standard request data (such as IP addresses) per the GitHub privacy statement. We have no access to, and make no use of, such logs.
Changes & contact
If this policy ever changes, the new version appears on this page with a new effective date — and the promises above are the point of the project, so don't expect them to move. Questions or concerns: get in touch.
